Intro
As a Chinese designer, my background influences the way in which I perceive things around me. However, this influence is barely visible and people can understand my work through a universal visual language. It’s like using English to tell a Chinese story.
Do you think that jewellery is being standardized? What is there of local and universal in your artistic work?
It’s being standardized within the jewellery industry, but there still are artists and designers who break boundaries in their own ways and this is the most interesting part for me.
As a Chinese designer, my background influences the way in which I perceive things around me. However, this influence is barely visible and people can understand my work through a universal visual language. It’s like using English to tell a Chinese story.

What do you expect when exposing your work to the public (for example with an exhibition)?
More dialogues between my work and viewers.

Are other areas besides the jewellery present in your work?
Observation of the society and consumer culture, using humour as a way to materialise my opinions into jewellery. Graphic design and fashion elements I‘ve experienced and learned.

The last work, book, film, city that has moved me was…
The documentary called The True Cost. It exposes issues behind today’s consumer culture and fashion industry, such as environmental problem and human rights issues. It shows the endless desires that change our behaviour. It moved me and helped me to understand more about the dark side of overconsumption.

A place, space, country whose creativity surprises me...
Everywhere.

Is there any designer, jeweller, artist, you appreciate a lot?
There’s many. Sebastian Errazuriz, Rachel Whiteread, Urs Fischer, Sophie Calle, Guoqiang Cai, Cy Twombly are among them.

What piece or work has given you the most satisfaction?
I would say the Buy one get one free earring. The free one is actually in the reflection!
It’s a piece from my supermarket collection, inspired by the packaging and promotion signs at Tesco, which are supposed to tempt us to consume more. With it, I aimed to invite people to rethink the value of what they buy in a world of fast-moving consumption.

Do you read Jewellery Magazines? What is your source to get information?
Sometimes I read the magazine, but mostly I get information from books and by searching online. I like Klimt02 and Instagram.

Do you discuss your work with other jewellery artists or any other person?
Yes, it’s an important part for me, discussing with friends who work in creative industry. Most of them are not jewellery artists nor designer, but that allows us to share our own points of view.

What is your first thought when you hear the word Future?, What do you expect for?
Something new. Something never is seen before. Something that never happens. Even if it is only criticisms about things nowadays. I think that means future and I am going for it.
