Since 2012, Esther and Dimitrios Tsatsas have been creating leather bags and accessories that deviate from fashion’s established design concepts and take a new approach free of aesthetic limitations. With the exhibition and publication TSATSAS. past, present, future, published to mark the TSATSAS brand’s 10th anni- versary, the Deutsches Ledermuseum showcases the work of this internationally successful designer label that is still produced locally in Offenbach am Main.
In the publication TSATSAS. past, present, and future, Esther and Dimitrios Tsatsas present an exciting and informative glimpse into their artistic oeuvre to mark the tenth anniversary of their business. The designer couple has been developing high-end leather bags and accessories since 2012, eschewing established parameters of design and interweaving and developing the traditional Offenbach bagmaker's craft with their own design vernacular.
The publication illustrates the varied work processes that accompany the couple, from the concept and the transformation of this traditional craft to such diverse sources of inspiration as art, design, and architecture.
Modern, progressive, timeless: these are characteristics that are associated with bags from the TSATSAS label. On the occasion of their tenth company anniversary, the designer couple Esther and Dimitrios Tsatsas are now providing a comprehensive insight into their creative work – and into the success story of their outstanding leather products, which have been reduced to the essentials. Since 2012, Esther and Dimitrios Tsatsas have been creating high-quality leather bags and accessories that leave established fashion design patterns and impress with their very own design language. The origins of TSATSAS label, founded in Frankfurt am Main in 2012, can be found in Offenbach am Main, the German center of the fine bag-making trade. It all began there 40 years ago when Dimitrios' father came to Germany from Greece to set up a family business in the leather industry. In all silence and modesty, TSATSAS has developed over time into one of the most important design labels in Europe in this field. A bag from TSATSAS may appear extremely minimalist - that's exactly where its secret lies. For this clear appearance, constructional details have to be hidden, which paradoxically maximizes the complexity of the manufacturing process. The most important question when designing a new bag from TSATSAS is: What is required? The design approach is based on the consideration of what is left out or hidden.
