The winner of the New Talent Award 2022 is Lucy Pearl Petts, who graduated from Glasgow School of Art, where she studied under Professor Silvia Weidenbach.
The Prize consists of a professional jeweller profile at klimt02.net and an exhibition at Hannah Gallery Barcelona by Klimt02.
Klimt02 2022 Jury decided to award Lucy Pearl Petts.
Lucy Pearl Petts' works are fresh and jumpy in colour matching, with strong rhythmic point, line and plane structure interspersed with a three-dimensional, aesthetic and new form, giving people a sense of science and technology. An interesting work because of the contradiction between the image and the reality of weight and volume in the pieces. Also because of the use of colour, aluminium and 3D plastic. Some quirky and cheerful pieces.
Silvia Weidenbach Guiding Teacher at the school, states:
Lucy Pett's work embodies joy and pleasure in these turbulent times. The work is flamboyant and demands to be noticed. Vibrant colours are rendered in plant-based biodegradable materials. These are amulets of positivity and energy with dynamic forms and colours that are fun to wear. These objects take the form of contemporary ritualistic tokens, commanding presence and inviting a visual conversation.
Lucy Pearl Petts states:
My work is a response to the chaotic and alarming experiences faced by people living through the Anthropocene, such as the climate apocalypse, unjust governments and civil unrest. The collection Chaos attempts to bring a sense of joy and hope despite these hurdles, materialising in the form of amulets and tokens of luck. However, they could also be fittingly perceived as panic buttons for life. The pieces aim to initiate vital conversations of positive reform or provide comfort to the wearer with their inviting iridescent colours, alluring forms and hidden ornamentation.
