Beauty Over Time. Book Launch by Patina Gallery

Founded in 1999 by artists and curators Allison & Ivan Barnett, Patina Gallery is recognized as one of the most inspiring destinations to view curations & exhibitions of the finest in the fields of art jewelry & fine craft design.

Both grew up in creative, spirited families. Allison’s grandmother, Irma “Tillie” Moses Kessler, opened New Orleans’ most respected boutique, Dress Circle, in the early 1930s and continued to offer highly stylish, beautiful clothing until 1962. Her shop was the place to acquire unique fashion and accessories from around the world.

Ivan, first and foremost an artist, has work featured in the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe. He began drawing and making art under the watchful eye of his father, Isa Barnett, a renowned Philadelphia illustrator, and became enchanted by New Mexico on an exploration with his family along Route 66 in the early 1950s.

Allison & I opened Patina in the summer of 1999, and we have been in the same historic location ever since. The building was a hardware store at the turn of the twentieth century, and it wasn't used as an art gallery until the 1960s.

Beauty Over Time is an extension of the gallery’s mission to sustain the souls and lives of its artists, friends, and patrons with soul-stirring beauty. Seven years in the making, this compilation contains 152 pages of visually stunning imagery featuring the skilled and talented artists who have exhibited their collections at Patina Gallery over the last 23 years.

Beauty Over Time is our love story. For over two decades, we have featured hundreds of artists from all over the world, dedicating ourselves to the gallery, associates, and to the artists themselves. That's what makes us tick. The book is an extension of our passion made into a beautiful object to share with the world.

Divided into four chapters—Soul, Stirring, Works, and Opera—the final chapter pays homage to opera and the flourishing collaboration between opera and Patina. Each section celebrates the most brilliant and innovative works of art seen in jewelry design and contemporary craft revealing an alluring array of gemstones, metals, and mixed media.
