Deganit Stern Schocken (b. 1947) is among the most prominent artists in Israel. The monograph How Many Is One presents works of forty years of artistic production, in which the socio-political situation of her country can be seen.

The neck pieces "Kalandia Checkpoint", which are part of the exhibition Cold Sweat, are an example of this. The book How Many is One consists of four chapters, each of which is named after a word in the title, referring to a particular artistic aspect of her work: "How" "Many" "Is " "One".
