Intro
Contemporary jewellery is a young genre and some of its pioneers are still highly active on the scene. The artists Marianne Schliwinski and Jürgen Eickhoff have been working with jewellery for over 50 years. In 1981 they opened Galerie Spektrum in Munich and during their career, they have paved the way for jewellery that challenges the boundaries for what is wearable, what is precious and what is art.

Artist list

Jürgen Eickhoff, Marianne Schliwinski
In Marianne Schliwinski’s work, you will see contrasts playing together. Her language consists of materials and their different qualities. Things might not always be what they seem – light pieces with a heavy look and weighty works with a light appearance.
The composition of the materials, colour and photography tells sensible stories, sometimes with political themes. Marianne Schliwinski often combines papier-mâché with found objects. Different paints and lacquers accentuate the materials and shapes, and on the backsides, you can often find photos or prints - adding more layers and stories to the pieces.

The theme of Jürgen Eickhoff’s work is chaos and order and the interplay between them. The two principles depend on themselves but also need each other. Chaos and order is the beginning of thinking and the beginning of life. It builds up the basis of social structures.
In Jürgen Eickhoff’s pieces, you will find the structured, exact work of a goldsmith together with the humour, creativity, thoughts and emotions of an artist.
