In her solo exhibition Melody within Matter, Korean artist Lee Youngjoo presents a new body of work that continues her long-standing investigation into rhythm, repetition, and material presence. Drawing from the structural concept of Kanon—a rule or measure generating variation—Lee explores how form emerges through the interplay of algorithmic precision and hand-based labor.

This exhibition has been selected and supported by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation (KCDF) as part of its 2025 exhibition program. Through this support, Lee expands her ongoing exploration into material intelligence and rhythmic form through digital fabrication and traditional craft sensibilities.
Her works, often composed of interlocked metal structures or vessel-like forms, are grounded in traditional Korean craft methods while integrating computational modeling and minimal surface geometry. Each piece is constructed without glue or welding, relying instead on tension, friction, and the inherent elasticity of the materials.
Through this exhibition, Lee invites the viewer to perceive matter not as inert, but as something that breathes—imbued with quiet rhythm and latent resonance. The works evoke not only formal elegance but also a meditative sensibility, offering an aesthetic that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in tactile making.
