Galerie Handwerk will be celebrating 50 years next month, therefore they are organizing a jubilee exhibition with 50 artists living in Munich.
Galerie Handwerk, run by the Chamber of Crafts and Trades for Munich and Upper Bavaria, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this October. Initially founded as a private gallery, in 1975 it was affiliated with the Bavarian Crafts Council and subsequently with the Chamber of Crafts and Trades. It is considered the only cultural institution for the applied arts in Germany whose aim was and remains to provide the creative crafts with a site of international networking, exchange, and commercial opportunities.
An exhibition is planned to mark the 50th anniversary of Galerie Handwerk. It will be devoted exclusively to Munich workshops and studios active in the fields of glass, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, metal, paper, and set design. The show will reflect the diversity and quality of design that are characteristic of Munich. At the same time, the decidedly international nature of the creative crafts and applied arts in this city will be embodied by the exhibitors, a full one-third of whom originated from other countries and have been living and working here for a considerable time.
