Intro
Action Collection is the first such extensive exhibition of artistic jewelry belonging to the International Collection of Contemporary Jewelry kept by the Gallery of Art in Legnica. The Collection sustains over a 40-years-long tradition of Legnica SILVER Festival. It was the Festival's rapid development that resulted in the desire to collect the most interesting works, presented and awarded in its successive editions.

The exhibition presents works from the Collection selected by Prof. Sławomir Fijałkowski (Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk), who for many years played the role of the Festival’s general consultant, having a direct influence on the character and development of the event.

Work towards the development of a permanent jewelry collection began at the Gallery of Art in 2004. The majority of the works were acquired in the years 2013-2016 thanks to the subsidies from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. At present, the Collection comprises about half a thousand works, which makes it one of Europe’s largest international collections of contemporary art jewelry. It consists of objects representing the latest art, the majority of which were created already in the 21st century. These are both works awarded and honored during the International Jewellery Competition - the main event of Legnica Silver Festival – and presented at accompanying exhibitions.

The Legnica Collection evidences the wealth of contexts, techniques, materials, and ways of thinking about jewelry - from speculation on the traditional understanding of ornamentation, through the medium used to manifest the artist's views, to the work of conceptual art, where the physical object serves only to embody an idea. The International Collection of Contemporary Jewellery exemplifies and documents the possibility of using a piece of jewelry to convey an artistic message. Its purely decorative aspect being effaced, it becomes an independent work of contemporary art. In the Legnica Collection, there are works of leading representatives of this kind of thinking – jewelry makers, artists, and designers from almost all over the world.

Opening Hours:
Thursday to Saturday, 2 pm - 6 pm.
Sunday, 12 pm - 6 pm.

The exhibition is being virtually presented in @action_collection_legnica.

The project Action Collection is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
