We are part of a universal and connected structure. Our actions - as human beings and designers – exist in a causal relationship between us and all parts of the common system. We take, we give, we grow away from the earth, we return to the earth. Our actions leave traces with our fellow human beings, in our environment and of course with us. In this context, issues of aesthetics, value – and sustainability – gain ultimate creative power.
Exploring the debate on sustainability, we re-examine areas of interest, develop personal positions and find new definitions. We explore new design approaches and formal languages within the central "material - process - social environment - impact" relationship. We deal with the issues in a broad, critical, constructive and unencumbered way.
The personal insights acquired through the initial research of materials and processes in our own lockdown islands (a closed system metaphor) led to six sustainability topics. Online talks with inspirational creators addressing the themes „Fairtrade // cyclical system // earth to earth // symbiotic system // what about plastics // recycling/repurpose" illuminated various facets of and links between these aeras and set a discussion in motion that will carry on. A project with Jan Spille, pioneering Fairtrade goldsmith and Prof. Christine Lüdeke.
The resulting jewelry collections reflect the various developed attitudes and bring them onto the body, thus allowing us to be an integral part of the discussion and drive it forward.
Opening: 23 Jul 2020, 19h Introduction Prof. Michael Braungart, Author "Cradle to Cradle".
