Bas Bouman investigate the meaning of the word value in relation to jewellery, especially the value of a material. Instead of the obvious financial value he takes an interest in the cultural, religious or mythological meanings of a material.

Galleri Hnoss is proud to present the Dutch jewellery artist Bas Bouman.
In the exhibition at Hnoss we show pieces from three different collections. One of them - Treasures from a Today´s Huntingspot refer to the hunting grounds of the modern man - the local supermarket. These neckpieces is made of leftovers from the artists dinners. Meat bones, cherrystones and clamshells are examples of material that´s been promoted to trophies or relics - a possible tribute to the animals and the nature that feeds us.
The second collection - Matter of Belief is based on a blend of religious traditions and superstition. The neckpiece Nothing Remains, Nothing Parishes for example resemble on one side of the Muslim prayer beads Subha while the other half consist of symbols of eternity from various belief systems.
In spite of some differences in theme there is an obvious homogeneity in Boumans work. The coherent use of nature materials combined with the rhythmical and almost mathematical structures makes his jewellery unmistakable.
