108 small-scale sculptures of wearable jewellery are presented in this tableau which showcases a variety of enamelling techniques. The work is inspired by the significance of the number 108 in Buddhism, with temples in China and Japan tolling their bells 108 times at midnight on New Year’s Eve as a ritual of purification. The pieces of jewellery are created from remnants of previous projects and take simple abstract forms. In contrast to traditional enamelling techniques, here, the melting process has been disrupted to create areas of high contrast across the surfaces.

Mari Ishikawa and Kaori Juzu explore the concept: IN–BETWEEN through their jewellery. IN-BETWEEN also refers to the Japanese concept of MA, which can be roughly translated as "the space between two structural parts ". MA is not something that is created by compositional elements. It takes place in the imagination of the human who experiences these elements. These two artists are aiming to connect thoughts, people and the world through their works - as jewellery to connect all IN-BETWEEN / in that MA. The world doesn’t simply stop at the limits of our bodies but reaches inside to our very senses.

Mari Ishikawa sees a parallel world off the beaten track of everyday living, which she wants to make visible with her art.
REBIRTH: She interrupts for a brief moment the flow of transience; a precious object is created that has been wrenched from the cycle of life and death to stand for itself and for the moment.
Kaori Juzu’s jewellery is exquisite in composition and surface. The working process of the series 108 has been almost like meditative by repeating the same procedure, even though one form gives new inspiration to a new form - they are all individual. These pieces fill out a void, yet by creating different forms there is constantly such a space as MA in between…
