The work included in this exhibition was made mostly in the dark.
To create the work, I follow a few simple rules: waxes are manipulated only with my fingers. All major imperfections are repaired with gold, blemishes are embellished with color, and evidence of fingerprints is left for all to see.

I close my eyes or keep my hands in the periphery to find an empty space where I can work. In this space, the creative possibilities are endless. I press and squeeze dollops of wax with the warmth of my fingers acting as my only tool. Untethered from traditional metalsmithing precision and machinery, I can take this portable studio anywhere.
After making scores of blind waxes, I cast them using silver from my sweeps box. The waxes start out as thin, ephemeral and translucent forms, but the casting process transforms them into resilient, wearable, opaque objects. To complete each piece, I cut off the sprues and leave nubs where they were attached. I repair mistakes with gold. Sometimes I cover entire sections of the silver artifacts with gold leaf. I apply color enamel selectively to accentuate and distract. The resulting forms are raw and they unabashedly reveal flaws.
This new way of working allows me to fuse metaphysical experience with more conscious engagement. The resulting work is physical evidence of my own quotidian existence. As ornament, these biomorphic forms invite the wearer to touch and explore their surfaces, and in doing so they echo the fluid subconscious process with which these objects began.
