Intro
Jewelry Links, the Turkish contemporary jewelry collective, will launch its first online exhibition to accommodate restrictions created by the Covid-19 pandemic. For the exhibition, each day one member of the collective will present a piece of work expressing one of the many meanings of breath and breathing.

Artist list

Hakan Aktuğ, Şenay Akın, Filiz Ates, Feyzal Baykut, Burcu Büyükünal, Ela Cindoruk, Canan Durukal, Gözde Erdoğan, Ezgi Okur, Nazan Pak, Burcu Sülek, Leyla Taranto, Deniz Turan, Gülnur Özdağlar, Selen Özus
We are in a sliver of time where breathing is no longer taken for granted. It is filtered through masks, constantly drawing attention to itself, its fragility. We now find ourselves frequently meditating on what an ordinary involuntary activity we partake in 86,400 times a day means to us.

The exhibition will be available for viewing via the @Jewelry_Links Instagram account.

Deniz Turan. Set: 41, 2020. Black sesame seeds, fabric, red thread, brass, stainless steel.. Statement: As in some cultures, Anatolia people believe in the power of good energy-laden breath as they believe in the healing and protective power of words, colors, and numbers. Today, still, many people make various charms, amulets, or talismans by using such elements for good luck or protection against bad luck. This work is a shadow-copy of a charm that my grandmother made for me when I was a child. She used to make it by using a piece of blue fabric, red thread, and forty-one black sesame seeds and of course her own good energy-laden breath.. Deniz Turan
