Breon O'Casey (1928–2011), a well-respected British artist of Irish extraction, son of the great Irish playwright Sean O'Casey, made his initial reputation as a jeweler before he fully concentrated on painting, printmaking, and sculpture. His works are in major international public and private collections.

His works are in major international public and private collections, including the Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim; The State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg; Tate Britain, London; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Goldsmiths Hall, London; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. "Breon O'Casey, A World Unknown: 1983–2003" will be exhibited at the American Irish Historical Society, 991 Fifth Avenue, and include paintings, prints, sculpture, holloware, and jewelry from private collections.

Breon O’Casey: Cornwall in America
For, strange as it may seem, his work, though intended for wearing and the pleasure of ornament, is akin to a landscape art. It derives from the place. This sense of being rooted in a geographical locality is quite rare in contemporary jewelry.

Breon O’Casey made his own way as an adult artist in the deep South West of England, establishing a long-lasting studio for jewellery in St Ives (Harrod memorably said that St Ives was his real art school) and then in a converted farmhouse close to the fishing village of Mousehole, Cornwall. Never resting on the laurels of one form of practice, he stretched his artistic and technical gifs wide and deep into painting, printmaking, artists’ books, weaving and sculpture. Jewellery, he said, ‘paid the bills’ for thirty years and allowed me to devote the major part of my time to painting.
