Con-tacto is a project that started in March 2020, just when the quarantine started in México, at this point we had already seen images and read about it in the news of what was happening around the world. But it wasn't until then that it hit us. The word con-tacto has different meanings in Spanish, "contacto" translate as contact, which has to do with the condition of physical touch, and "con tacto" means "with care" so in this sense we decide to explore this double meaning through pieces of jewelry that could be made of recycled materials due to the lockdown and that could give meaning to this word.

Statement: As human beings, we’re naturally social creatures. We cannot avoid it as our instincts oblige us to find our role in society. In the best-case scenario, we create strong bonds with skin to skin contact. Piel con Piel represents, through magnets, this inevitable force that moves us throughout our lives, where we are part of a chain, seeking physical contact; symbolized with a silicone layer. These pieces allow users to choose how to arrange all separate pieces of it, playing with the different shapes, placement, and power of attraction, according to what they’re looking for at the moment.

Necklace: Museo, 2020
Discarded mobile phones, packaging material, rubber, plastic fastener.
7 x 7 x 1.8 cm
From series: Artificios
Statement: Experiencing isolation gives us nostalgia and a quest to interact with the world. The artifacts of virtual interaction open infinite possibilities for contact when physical interaction is impossible. The virtual world is the receiver and transmitter of the collective heartbeat. In Artificios I used material remainings of the objects that connect us in the virtual world. Fragments of the bridge between two worlds, the virtual and the material, a simulation with-touch.

Necklace: Mixtape 2, 2020
Old cassette tape, old cassette, gold paint.
45 x 4.5 x 0.5 cms
From series: I Made You a Mixtape
Statement: Music, intangible, connects us with other human beings. Dedicating a song or a selection of songs involves capturing the love we feel for certain music, seeking that someone we love can feel the same for it. Making a mixtape represents a selection of who you are, what you know, what you like, and what you want to show. I Made You a Mixtape allows the users to choose their melody, to select their composition, to choose the visual rhythm that best suits their personality.

Ring: Caricia Ambar, 2020
Recycled glass.
4 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm
From series: Caricia Ambar
Statement: We have learned and seen that contact today is, and will continue to be, an important issue in everyday life. That is why the pieces are designed in glass, it represents the vulnerability and fragility to which we are exposed just by getting in contact with another person just because of what contact represents today in society.

Brooch: Nesting 1, 2020
Silver electroformed branch, wood, cotton thread.
2.5 x 18.5 x 0.6 cm
From series: Nesting
Statement: Like a little bird choosing the best branches to build its nest where it takes care of its younglings, we have been preparing our home for it to be our space of peace, relaxation, a place to be safe with our family in these times of crisis. These brooches pay tribute to what we have lived during quarantine and the changes we have made to our homes to make them more suitable for quarantine. Technology has played an important part in this transformation since the only contact we have with our friends, family, and the outside world is our phones, our computers, and our TVs. That's why the main material in this piece is metal (copper and silver). I added the cotton cord contrary to the cold metal, referencing the comfort we seek in our homes.

Object: Elbow, 2020
Oaxaca clay.
5 x 5 x 5 cm
From series: Awkward Contact
Statement: This piece refers to physical contact in these times. We have stopped intertwining to only touch parts of our body with the least possible contact. As if we had amputated limbs, bones touch with our joints, knees, fists, or elbows. It is as if we repel each other, giving us the most impersonal feeling.
