Intro
The exhibition shows an exclusive trove of what people had loved and collected over time, telling the story of their unique history and how art doesn't have to have a shelf life, rather, quality and well cared for works can last forever.
For Patina Gallery, estate pieces have been a growing part of our business for the last five years. We recently came into the second market collection of Nambé Pueblo artist, Lonnie Vigil from a collector of ours, Peter Frank. As an avid Patina collector, he has trusted us to take care of the work before they find new homes (Peter Frank deaccessioning his treasured Lonnie Vigil pieces are one of many instances where collectors have done this with us).

To be this type of resource for collectors, we are expected to be knowledgeable of the maker, the historic relevance of the works and the rarity of the work. In addition, we must know how to handle, maintain and beautifully feature the pieces in our space. When it comes down to it, it is the consideration and energy we put into this relationship with the collector.

On the flip side of this, we also have exclusive works from artists who have since retired and have entrusted pieces of their remaining collection for us to manage and sell. For example, Patina is in possession of the works of artists, Alexandra Watkins and Nancy Michel who established Atelier Janiye in Boston, MA. We also have rare works by the master, mid-20th Century jeweler, Earl Pardon, among others.

There is a continuing story to estate works. The market they thrive in and the pieces themselves tell stories that live past the complex making process. There is a reason some collectors primarily seek out second market works and there is a significant role the gallerist plays to keep them in circulation.
