Patina Gallery is thrilled to present for the 14th year the exquisite art jewelry of the world renowned Peter Schmid of Atelier Zobel with The Couleurs of Zobel. The Atelier creates jewelry of exotic and sophisticated elegance, combining platinum, gold, and oxidized silver with gems and rare stones. The work of Atelier Zobel has set a standard for art jewelry recognized by collectors around the world and is treasured in prestigious private and public collections.
Established five decades ago by Michael Zobel, Peter Schmid continues a tradition of gold and oxidized silver set with unusual gems and dustings of diamonds, while bringing an innovative quality of refinement to the designs. Traveling from Germany, Schmid will be bringing his most recent collection of works, which reflect the newest technique of the Atelier. Fabric-like patterns bestow exuberance and wonder to the surfaces of the pieces. Metals resemble ornate silks, embellished with great delicacy and boldness. "The painterly quality of the surface textures, the free use of color and the playful tension between strong geometric form and sensual organic line continues to inspire our collections."
With natural aesthetics in mind, Schmid's designs are dramatic and distinctive. His goldsmithing reflects a painterly transition between gold, platinum, and silver, to embolden a prism of carefully selected stones. From fossils to pearls to precious gems, each piece is an alluring handcrafted wearable work of art. Peter Schmid sees himself as both a craftsman and an artist whose creativity is not limited by scale, materials, or traditional forms.
Fresh and breathtaking color variations in jewelry are the main focus of the work Schmid will be bringing for Patina's Year of Color. Schmid's opulent relationship with color is illustrated in his amalgamations of extravagant gemstones, metals, and technique. "Tourmaline is amazing, it gives you the opportunity to work with many colors. The possibilities are so interesting and exciting, tanzanite with mandarin garnet, the green and orange combinations, and two-toned tourmalines like watermelons."
