Miralda

Enric and Roc Majoral collaborate with artists from different creative fields, bringing new and enriching perspectives to the world of jewellery.

Following collaborations with Gilbert Herreyns, Willie Márquez, Alfons Borrell, Erwin Bechtold, Stella Rahola, Michel Mouffe, Lina Tur, Antoni Taulé and Marià Castelló, the "Created with..." project continues its journey alongside Miralda.

The necklace was designed by Miralda, produced in the Majoral workshop using the lost-wax casting technique, and handcrafted in sterling silver. The edition consists of seven numbered pieces and two artist's proofs.

A pacifist statement, a personal exorcism, a parody of the mythologies of violence and the archetypes of patriotism. Soldats Soldés was an obsessive variation on a single identical image, repeated to the point of paroxysm and, in doing so, somehow stripped of its original meaning.
This body of work, incorporating hundreds of toy soldiers joined together, created on the most unlikely supports and exhibited in a wide variety of settings, became, during the early years of Miralda's career, a kind of visual hallmark of his artistic practice.
Despite the diversity of its forms, every project stemmed from the same biographical experience: the period between 1962 and 1966, when the artist was conscripted into the Spanish army and experienced first-hand the suffocating, inward-looking atmosphere of military life.

Miralda takes play to the extreme. With the Essais d'amélioration, an army of white plastic toy soldiers invades every sphere of life, metaphorically overrunning our history—through the distortion of cultural heritage—and, with it, our collective imagination, even our own bodies, violating them. The photographs in Hazañas Bélicas bear witness to this.

About the artist:
Antoni Miralda (Terrassa, 1942) is a multidisciplinary artist who, since the 1960s, has developed a body of work centred on objects, ritual, public-space interventions, monuments, food, and the concept of Food Cultura.

Although his approach to art defies categorisation, his work is distinguished by its deep engagement with social contexts and by a unique exploration of the omnipresent role of food as a catalyst for dialogue, cultural exchange, and collective experience.

Among his most notable projects are El Internacional Tapas Bar & Restaurant (1984‒1986) in New York, created in collaboration with Montse Guillén, and Honeymoon Project (1986‒1992), an imaginary wedding between the Statue of Liberty and Barcelona's Columbus Monument. Through this symbolic union, Miralda explores the cultural exchange between the New and Old Worlds, while reflecting on the contrasting symbols of conquest and freedom.

In 2018, he was awarded the Velázquez Prize for the Arts.
