...a complete set or a series...
…a universal constant, from repeating rhythms in nature, to cycles in the cosmos, celestial bodies, tides, the looping seasons and fertility cycles...
... the rhythm and flow of the design process...considering circular design practices and the 7 R’s... rethink, refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, regift and recycle...
…cyclical & circular forms that loop around the body...
This exhibition brings together overlapping circles of the CSM BA Jewellery Design community, in a showcase of work by current students, staff and alumni. Exhibitors have responded to the theme of ‘Cycles’ in diverse, varied and personal ways. For example, by exploring form, symbolism, narrative, circular design practices, the natural world, life cycles or materials, in ways that resonate with Vitsœ’s core philosophies of quality and longevity.
Central Saint Martins BA Jewellery Design are proud to present this selection of work at Vitsœ's showroom on Türkenstraße, in their 8th year of collaboration for Munich Jewellery Week.
Jennie Moncur, Creative Director at Vitsœ said:
Cycles are a truism at Vitsœ, be it the cabinet bags which deliver product to the UK and Europe, then return to base, to do the same again. Or the customer who rearranges their shelving system in a new home, then leaves it to a relative in their will, for the next generation to enjoy. We reuse, repair, regift, rethink, reduce (less is better) refuse to compromise, and as a last resort recycle.
We challenged students of CSM to do the same, when they visited our production building earlier in the year and the live project is testament to their creative response. As always, we warmly welcome the staff, students and Alumni to our Munich shop, for yet another remarkable exhibition and event.
Sally Collins, Course Leader of BA Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins comments:
“Our visit to Vitsœ' HQ and production building in Leamington Spa last year was a huge inspiration for our theme this year, where our exhibitors have responded to the theme of ‘Cycles’. We were in awe of the huge open and light space, along with the consideration of every detail of the manufacturing process, where the team use every opportunity to rethink and reuse materials and extend the lifespan of an object. Cycles are present in all areas of our lives- the academic yearly cycle, the cycle of returning to Munich Jewellery Week each year, the melting down and reforming of metal, the rinse/ repeat cycle of eat/ work/ sleep, in the plants & flowers that blossom and wither every year… and our staff, students & alumni have interpreted this theme with such diverse and beautiful approaches- we can’t wait to share this with everyone at MJW!”
