Intro
The eye is a primal motif, and as such, does not need any explanation or a list of what, how, where, why and wherefore.

Otto Künzli
Apart from my eyes, which, unsurprisingly, were constantly in use when I made these objects from jet, sea foam, gold, jade and water buffalo bones, and the ones to an infinite number of eyes, whose participation is essential for the perception from the outside, otherwise no one would ever see my works. I have been trying for some time to capture, record and reflect eyes, to reflect them, even to just hint at them, so that they emerge from the underground, the background, the basis of all things, shine through, light up, look, wink, turn away, close again and darken, perhaps even go out again. The eye is a primal motif, and as such, it does not need any explanation or a list of what, how, where, why and wherefore.

There are two, then the face begins, takes on further shape through the mouth and nose, and the expression becomes infinitely complex and ambiguous. With increasing attention to detail, an individual portrait emerges, evading reflection and the viewer's identification. That's someone, and therefore it's not me. Reduction, abstraction, alienation, the subtle hint of a mood, the transformation into a specific material, all of this leads back to an open encounter and enables a surprising dialogue with an eye, a face, and a being in which there is even a little something could be from “me”.
