Alexandra looks for the beauty in all things that scuttle and soar. Her fascination for insects materialises in the stillness that is embroidery and beadwork. While insects may be fleeting creatures, they have been a source of inspiration to makers for centuries. For ‘Infest’ Alexandra examines the diverse range of colours and textures in beetles and deconstructs them, exhibiting the process of infestation and deterioration.

We use materials experimentally. We express ideas through materials and seek out new ways to apply them.

Jewellery and Silversmithing is a small and specialised department with a world-class reputation for high-quality craftsmanship and design. We balance old and new approaches to traditional craft techniques with innovation, exploration and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Our objective is to design critically informed work that integrates ‘thought’ and ‘practice’ to contribute towards the ever-evolving creative industries within and outwith our discipline.
The department is fundamentally concerned with instilling knowledge of materials and making practices. We use materials experimentally. We express ideas through materials and seek out new ways to apply them.
We have a philosophy that encourages a wide range of approaches, from the traditional Gold and Silversmiths’ trade to the contemporary influences of art, craft, design, technology and science. Our students are typically curious, resourceful, independent thinkers who are able to skilfully translate an idea into a beautifully crafted artefact.

From series: Nu
My work combines contrasting themes such as abstract structures, minimalist compositions and finding beauty in unexpected aspects of buildings. The ‘nu’ collection is designed focussing in on one of the primary principles of Brutalist architecture -the naked construction. This collection is designed to make people think about the complex forms and shapes that are often fabricated to create a minimalist or simplistic forms. The collection is very much inspired by minimalism both in terms of material, colour and fittings – much like brutalist architecture.

I am a jewellery designer and maker who creates playful kinetic jewellery in precious metals.
My graduate collection name is called ' The 25th Hour'. The pandemic affected me deeply and had a huge impact on my living habits. Restrictions on travel triggered my fantasy of going outdoors. I began to form a habit of going out late at night when the streets are quiet and teaching myself to ride a bike. Watching the changes of the moon and escaping to an imaginary world.
In this collection, I combine elements of the bike and the moon to create a series of designs that represent my utopian imaginary world during the lockdown.
