Artist listBettina Speckner
Bettina Speckner combines in her jewellery pearls, gold, and diamonds, photographs, finds, timber, or shells. These seemingly trivial, strange pieces are accomplished into new poetic harmony with great creative force. Significant for her work are photographs: Some show locations and people from past times, yet mostly the artist works with her own photographs of trees and flowers, of lonely streets or landscapes.
Bettina Speckner alienates these pictures, makes them to jewellery, and grasps the ephemeral. Beside the combination of jewellery and photo, it is the incorporation of different photo-techniques like photo etching, enamel compositions and ferro-typing, which gives Bettina Speckner´s brooches, earrings and necklaces their special charm.
About 70 selected jewellery pieces are contrasted by photographs of travelling – expression of the everyday and the far away.
Bettina Speckner had graduated at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Munich; she studied with Prof. Hermann Jünger and Prof. Otto Künzli. The artist was awarded with important prizes and honours, amongst others she was awarded the Herbert-Hoffmann-Preis (1998), the Bayrischer Staatspreis (2001) and the Prize of the Danner-foundation Munich (2005). Her works are represented in national and international collections.
