Intro
EXEMPLA, the largest of the special shows at the International Crafts and Trades Fair, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022. The purpose of the exhibition, organized by the Chamber of Crafts and Trades for Munich and Upper Bavaria on behalf of the Association of Trades Fairs, is to present outstanding achievements in the field. Devoted to a new theme each year, EXEMPLA serves as a special point of attraction both, for specialists and the wider public. Its topics are intended to set examples of approaches intrinsic to the crafts. The organizers’ aim is that the quality of the exhibits and their artisanal treatment of form by active workshops will encourage a deeper understanding of the crafts.

Exempla has enriched the International Crafts and Trades Fair in Munich for half a century. This is reason enough to take a look back at some of the show's most successful themes, interesting contributions, and outstanding personalities who over the past 50 years have helped shape and define this special show and contributed to its legendary reputation.

In general, the international special show Exempla defines itself as a forum for the crafts on the highest level. It provides an opportunity for about 20 companies and workshops that employ the latest technology and materials and at the same time master traditional techniques, to mount an unusual and image-enhancing presentation.

The selection made for the 2022 exhibition will take account of especially successful craftspeople and designers who prove that artisanal achievements are part and parcel of our everyday culture and that the crafts deserve to be considered an essential element of society and culture. The chosen workshops and designers are representatives of their fields, distinguished by outstanding artisanal skills in the crafts and trades. The craftsmen, makers and artists are coming from the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Japan, and Germany.

There will be the Czech toymaker Martin Lhotak with a big windmill, which offers a place to have tea or coffee for 6 people. Other contributions will deal with ceramics, car design, restoration of the old- and new timer, the plaster renovation of the White City in Tel Aviv (a Bauhaus colony), and more.

In the fields of jewellery Bettina Dittlmann and Michael Jank will be present with an exhibition of their work and a living workshop.
