ATTA Gallery is happy to present an exhibition of material-based contemporary art by 3 artists in one exhibition: ceramic objects and contemporary jewelry/wearable art by Benedikt Fischer (& Rudy De Gruyl) and Contemporary jewelry/wearable art by Karin Johansson and Noon Passama.

This exhibition is in a way a response to COVID-19 time, during which family, friends and colleagues could not meet up as usual. Karin Johansson (SE) lives and works in Sweden; Benedikt Fischer (AT) and Noon Passama (TH) live and work in the Netherlands. The lockdown and the closing of borders, even within Europe, had made it hard or even impossible for them to meet up in person during the last 2 years. The 3 artists have known one another through their practices in contemporary jewelry making and they have been appreciating and admiring one another’s creativities, creations and practices. Their relationships have been more than professional colleagues for quite some time after having their works exhibited together in the past in several locations. However, this is the first time that all of them will be exhibiting together.

Even when they cannot be in Thailand together in person during COVID-19 pandemic as previously planned, their artistic creations will still be exhibited together. COVID-19 has kept them apart physically, but it cannot stop their desire and determination to have this special exhibition together.

Benedikt Fischer:
The works on show in the exhibition were made over the last year and a half, in collaboration with outsider artist Rudy de Gruyl. We meet every Thursday and make things from various materials. We share a lot of interests, such as history of art and craft, hunting for treasures at fleamarkets, the (homo)erotic, and most of all: bright colours. The majority of our work is wearables, as we love to express ourself this way.
The other half of the show consists of ceramic objects made by me. I decided to work with clay since it is a challenge for me to engage with a material that comes with no information concerning form or aesthetics.

Karin Johansson:
Points of View
Remote places in the palm of my hand.
Under my feet, a map to explore.
Hidden colours unfold in the dark, and clues to be found in vanishing clouds.
The imaginary line never ends, it just takes a new turn.
Wearable objects in silver, gold and fired enamel.

Noon Passama
Crush / gather / twist / reverse
A set of indefinite basic actions which bring about shapes that are somewhere between the classic and the unfamiliar. An action is repeated over and over in sculpted models until there is one that feels right. In many pieces, the framework is a straightforward format like a complete circle or one link connecting to the next.

Opening
Saturday 12th of March 6 pm - 8 pm
