Felieke van der Leest
F.I.B.S.(Federation International des Bêtes Sportives)
Classical sport as practised in ancient Greece, which evolved from training for battle, has become glazed over with ideas about brotherhood and honour. Despite streamlined sporting events, nationalism and other primitive impulses often dominate odern-day tournaments.
Felieke van der Leest has chosen 'sport' as the theme for her new jewellery collection. Her world of animals mirrors our own universe. Here she plainly enjoys using animals to ask questions about a sports world gone mad. Is a referee simply an overseer, or is he now a high priest who celebrates the games? How much of an exhibitionist can one be on the high bar? Does horse training represent ultimate control, or does it actually negate the beast within the animal? Does sport represent a danger to nature, or can a simple rabbit still undermine its framework?
Appropriate to the subject, all are welcome to take part in Felieke van der Leest's mental gymnastics at Galerie Rob Koudijs - an exhibition which is sure to keep the mind lithe and limber.
