Gallery Loupe will be exhibiting at SOFA NY for the first time this year, showcasing featured artist Georg Dobler and a group of well established and dynamic jewellers.
Gallery Loupe, a cutting edge Contemporary Art Jewelry Gallery, is located in the New York Metropolitan area. In less than six years since its opening, Gallery Loupe has become an important destination for collectors, curators, and all who are interested in contemporary jewelry. It will be exhibiting at SOFA NY for the first time this year.
Featured artist, Georg Dobler, is an internationally acclaimed Contemporary Art Jeweler from Germany. The gallery will showcase his early work - geometric and Constructivist forms of steel and black chrome that focus on line and volume.
Dobler will be giving a lecture "Composition of Dreams - Geometry and Nature in Jewelry" on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. Presented by the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG), he will discuss the disparate poles of geometric and organic forms in his work - where naturalism and abstraction meet. Following the lecture there will be a book signing at the Gallery Loupe booth.
Also featured in the Gallery Loupe SOFA booth will be the work of important studio jewelry artists Susanne Klemm and Sandra Enterline, both of whom are well established in the world of American and European Contemporary Art Jewelry. The work of three dynamic, young artists, Attai Chen, Tobias Alm, and Laura Deakin will also be presented.
Getting to know the artists:
Susanne Klemm's Growth Series explores the inspiration of nature in her work. She will discuss this influence and offer a view into the development of her unconventional techniques on Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m. at a booth talk entitled "Growing."
Sandra Enterline reinterprets the notion of preciousness through the use of diamonds, petroleum and panned gold. A consummate metalsmith, she brings technical mastery and layers of meaning to her work. She will discuss her fascination with light and the dynamic ways in which it inspires her. Her in-booth talk entitled "Windows," will take place at the Gallery Loupe booth on Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m.
Attai Chen's most recent series of work is made of recycled paper combined with paint, coal, glue, brass and stainless steel. Through the cutting and reassembling of forms, he captures an unmistakable sense of motion in this series of neckpieces and brooches. Attai Chen was the recipient of the prestigious Herbert Hofmann Award at Schmuck 2011.
Tobias Alm's work is bold and abstract, balancing his sensibilities as a jeweler and sculptor. He is guided by an intuition that leads to a spontaneous flow of creation. Alm recently had two solo exhibitions in Europe. Alm will be giving an in-booth talk entitled "Guided by Intuition" at the Gallery Loupe booth on Saturday, April 21 at 5 p.m. He will discuss his improvisational working methods and belief in their power to take him places that a linear, logical process cannot.
Laura Deakin bridges the gap between classic jewelry and contemporary jewelry with her Dishonest Pearl and Confused series. In them she morphs classic jewelry fakes into her version of the fake. Deakin has been the recipient of the BKV-Prize 2007 for Young Applied Artists and the 2010 Bayerische State Prize for Young Designers.
In addition, pieces by the following artists will be shown: Klaus Bürgel, Yael Friedman, Thomas Gentille, Rory Hooper, John Iversen, Vered Kaminski, Joan Parcher, Robin Quigley, Biba Schutz and Marjorie Simon.
