Intro
The exhibition arrives now in Padova, encompassed by the precious Oratorio San Rocco's fresco paintings. A real nice sign which brings together all the Po river lands which save the traces of Saint Rocco along his way on the via Francigena. The ancient road of the pilgrims like St. Rocco, that runs from France to Rome, touches also the Piacenza hills and we may say it ideally connects them to the artistic treasures of the city of Padua, Urbs Picta.
Gioielli in Fermento is a contemporary jewellery international juried competition.
It investigates themes connected to Mediterranean culture, starting from the landscapes of Val Tidone where it is based. They are hills of an attractive Italian scenery, which goes from Emilia region, where we began, to Veneto region, which is hosting us now, along the typical line drawing the Appennino area. They are warm environments, evocative landscapes which testify the connection to rural and culinary tradition and in particular to the wine culture, which all the Mediterranean area shares.
Since 2011, these lands opened their borders involving established and emerging artists from every country to express their look at this particular context. The idea for the title of the project - inspired by fermentation in wine - came from that point.

Contemporary jewellery is in fermentation by definition... It deals with continuous research of unprecedented languages that artists experiment looking for all the different elements of composition to express something precious and unique. Extending the meaning of strong and individual taste and flavour, the wine and its landscapes become the metaphor of the artistic narration.
Over the course of its 8 editions, hundreds of artists and works have been presented under the selection of an international board of advisors in the field. The exhibition shows most of the works selected in 2018 and an overview from the previous editions (Master Collection).

A special attention is paid to the student section, involving institutes for art education based all over the world which may offer an interesting view to younger students and undergraduates looking for further in-depth experiences. Some works by L.A. Pietro Selvatico and Beijing BIFT are displayed in this section.

Each year the Gioielli in Fermento award is celebrated with the main show in Val Tidone in collaboration with some international partners: Agc Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo, Le Arti Orafe Jewellery School, Joya Barcelona Art Jewellery & Objects, Klimt02 Art Jewellery online network joint with the local Administrations, with La Valtidone Association and private supporters such as the international company Allied Group and the local departments of national association Donne del Vino - The women of Wine.
All exhibits have been held in special places, like the winery of Torre Fornello (from 2011 to 2017) and Villa Braghieri Albesani in 2018, a historical building of Castel San Giovanni municipality (Piacenza). During 2018 other hosting venues in Europe are Riga, Latvia (Gioielli in Fermento – Un Bel Panorama, Putti Art Gallery, Sept. 6 to 21) and Barcelona (JOYA Art Jewelry and Objects – HUB Disseny, Bcn Design Museum, Oct. 4 to 6).
