Jane Adam

From her studio in Teddington, England, Adam creates art jewelry from an incubator of beauty. Thriving on innovation, Adam imagines works that both appeal and astound collectors all over the world, from the United Kingdom, to the United States, Europe and Japan. 
 
Her work is held in over 20 public collections, including those in the Victoria & Albert Museum, Hove Museum and Art Gallery and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, among others.
 
The artist challenges the power and potential of metal. Stretching, compressing, puncturing and shaping her material, Adam imparts her intimate discovery into inventive, handcrafted works of adornment. In her spirit of exploration, the artist is applauded for her jewelry works in anodized aluminum.

In a delicate process, Adam suspends aluminum in a mixture of sulfuric acid and water, whereby the form is passed through an electric current, which opens the pores of the metal. 
 
Layers of color seep into the pores, dyeing the metal as it is sealed in place. The aluminum is then milled, where the body of the metal stretches against a stagnant surface. Texture arises as the metal is crazed, and as hue softens and patinas. 

An artful pattern is left behind, and becomes an impermeable embellishment in the artist’s work of art.

One may softly tug at the form to open, and to pleasantly pull over the hand and around the wrist. Resembling a fluted, hourglass shape, her bangles are an elegant fixture as they gracefully wrap themselves in place.
