Intro
'Iigo lea?' means 'right?', in Swedish 'eller hur?'. It is an expression used to confirm consensus and it was the first Sami expression I picked up. Monica and I chose to give the exhibition the title Iigo lea because we think the expression describes our collaboration in a good way.

Artist list

Karin Roy Andersson, Monica Blind Påve
Monica Blind Påve and Karin Roy Andersson both work with jewellery and craft but on different sides of Sweden. Monica in Övre Soppero in the northeast, and Karin in Gothenburg in the southwest. Three years ago, they got to know each other during an Artist in Residence project initiated by Anna Burman Sjöberg. Since then, they have visited each other's workshops and shared their experiences, sources of inspiration, and materials.

Monica Blind Påve works with silver and with duodji. She learned the craft from her older sister Solveig and her mother Anna-Maria. Monica has also attended various education with a focus on arts and crafts. For example at the Sami education centre in Jokkmokk. Monica draws her inspiration from her own culture but develops the traditional forms and techniques in her way. The pattern on her dad's knife turns into silver earrings or a large facade decoration in steel.

Karin Roy Andersson is a jewellery artist with a master's degree from HDK-Valand in Gothenburg. Her work is characterized by repetitions. Objects built up of smaller elements where the relationship between the details; rhythm and patterns, are important. Karin often works with waste materials and has for a long time worked with plastic garbage that she cuts and reshapes into new objects. During the collaboration with Monica, she discovered a new material - also a waste material that is often not taken care of - reindeer skin. The material is warm, elastic and strong and gives her work a new expression.

Opening day: 4th of March from 12h to 16h at Nääs Konsthantverk.
