What is iteration? Iteration is the repetition of a process in order to generate a (possibly unbounded) sequence of outcomes. The sequence will approach some end point or end value. Each repetition of the process is a single iteration, and the outcome of each iteration is then the starting point of the next iteration.
Artist list
Sara Chyan, Yichen Dong, Yonghui Duan, He Fei, Yuzhuo Fu, Yun Ge, Luran Huang, Stacey Huang, Wenqian Li, Hongmeng Luo, Herman Sun, Dandan Xing, Chenxi Xu, Joanna Xu, Tianbao Xu, Puyuan Yang, Yanxue Yin, Xiari Zheng, Xing Zhou, Mengnan Zi, Monique van Zyl
As mentioned in some articles, the three characteristics of the iteration are: repetition, improvement and cognitive upgrading.
This process is a bit like human history: you are heading where you come from. What is happening now has already happened in history. But it's in this cycle that we have moved from the stone age to the industrial revolution, making countless improvement along with overlapping death and birth.
We don't know where we're going, but we're always on our way.
If there is really no difference between one's life and one night of the world, then our declaration process as a small art practitioner should also have become a miniature of something.
As to learning the art of jewelry, we, who create the pieces, the process of our iteration begins we are on the road to art jewelry of studying as freshmen, and will not end even at our graduation. As graduates, we will restart as a newborn, constantly seeking the long way of art jewellery. Meanwhile, we also experience rounds of iteration. Each iteration of the cycle varies from person to person, but I believe in each iteration, we will take a new step, or very determined, or tread on thin ice, but whether thorns or fragrance, they are both a necessary part of the rose.
At the beginning of 2019, there was a #10yearschallenge series on social media which almost swept over the whole social media. Many people have posted pictures of themselves 10 years ago and 10 years after. This challenge intended to be a summary of the past ten years, to see if ten years have answered all the questions of people’s life. The people involved in this challenge used ten years as their symbolic cycle of an iteration. For us, the artists, and the world are also wondering your answer to this question. How long do you need to complete an iteration? Does the iteration take a year, two years, two decades, or even much longer? Have you completed an iteration or are still in the process of completing it?
We mark the time when our artists the graduates step out of the ivory tower and prepare to step out into the world, and we are looking forward to hearing from the graduates.
We hope this exhibition can also give some inspiration to those who have just stepped into jewellery learning, wishing this exhibition could as well become a little starlight guiding your future.
