Intro
Jean-Pierre Dussaillant works with a sort of dialogue between jewelry and sculptures. The artist is exploring “intimate art” by creating “wearable” objects, the size of which does not undermine the strength or the quality of expression.

Artist list

Jean-Pierre Dussaillant
After a first incursion into the art of jewelry, it is a delight to discover that this painter, sculptor and engraver has now produced another collection. Since his exhibition in Autumn 2008 - a sort of dialogue between jewelry and sculptures - the artist has continued to explore “this intimate art” by creating “wearable” objects, the size of which does not undermine the strength or the quality of expression.

Exhibited last spring at the Chateauroux museum in Indre, the new pieces use customary sculpting materials: brass plaques and tubes with a gold or silver-plated finish and a large variety of materials chosen for their colour, aspect or natural forms: horn, coral, jasper, fresh-water pearls… Interesting, sustainable matters, but not precious in the jewelry sense. These pieces are full of freshness, as if the artist gave himself a free hand in the association of colours, materials and concepts… His jewelry brims over with joie de vivre, sensuality and malicious or disturbing ideas. Some pieces are positively jubilant, like “le feu de l’enfer” while others remain full of enigma (secret ring). The lines and the mountings bear witness to the craft of the workshop and a love of well-oiled machinery. More than simple decorations, the objects hold a message, which may be rough, funny or even insolent. His jewelry, in provocative proportions, carries you into a world, sometime fairytale, sometime frightening.

The Artist:
Dussaillant’s works, full of personality, wonderfully embrace life. He fathered the revival of bas-relief sculpture, in particular with the technique of planes sculpted in different metals. From his minimalist drawing emerge bold, clear, expressive lines. Based in Ile de Ré, an artist's island paradise off France's west coast, he welcomes art lovers and collectors in his contemporary studio.
