Intro
Cyclic International Jewellery Competition is the leading event Legnica Festival SILVER, organized since 1979. Competition is held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, which is funded by a Grand Prix winner. The competition is purely artistic, prefers the idea and the value and meaning of speech writers.
23rd. Legnica International Jewellery Competition CLASSICS

Cyclic International Jewellery Competition is the leading event Legnica Festival SILVER, organized since 1979. Competition is held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, which is funded by a Grand Prix winner. The competition is purely artistic, prefers the idea and the value and meaning of speech writers. Artists joining him are to prepare artistic message on a given topic – which was different. Interpretation of the theme and the value of creative expression are the basic criterion for eligibility works for the exhibition. This makes every year an international jury consisting of eminent personalities of national and international goldsmiths.

This year we are known artists, educators, experts and curators associated with the goldsmithing and design: Peter Bauhuis (Germany), Sławomir Fijałkowski, Magdalena Kwiatkiewicz (Poland), Kai-Yin Lo (China), Graziano Visintin (Italy).

The jury acquainted with 706 works sent for the Competition by 308 artists from 42 countries (mainly from Europe, but also from Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Colombia, Korea, Israel, Taiwan and USA). List of qualified to the exhibition you can find at www.silver.legnica.pl

Jury deliberations: 3-4 April.

Laureates of the Competition will be announced on May 17th during opening of the exhibition

Exhibition space: The Gallery of Art, Ring Gallery, Satyrykon Gallery, Silver Gallery under the Quail`s Basket, Niello Gallery, The Copper Museum, Legnica Culture Centre, Old town hall, market square, other places.

About the Artists, a reccuring presentation of distinguished personalities among international goldsmiths. This year the cycle presents five artists:

Theo Smeets (The Netherlands) – artist, lecturer at the Faculty of Gemstone and Jewellery Design Idar Obertstein, University of Applied Sciences Trier.

Stephen Bottomley (Scotland) – goldsmith, lecturer and director of the Department of Jewellery and Silver Articles of the higher School of Art in Edinburgh.

Katarina Siposová (Slovakia) – artist, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.

Daniela Boieri (Italy) – artist, lecturer Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence.

Giedymin Jabłoński (Poland) – artist, critic, educator, curator, a pioneer of numerous initiatives dedicated to artistic jewellery and amber, author and participant many international exhibitions.

Antek Zaremski (Poland) – artist, the youngest representative of the well-known Polish family of goldsmiths Zaremski.

Silver Schools
A cycle of exhibitions presenting the artistic achievements of European higher education goldsmith, their professors, alumni and students. In this year's cycle will be presented three academies: Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and Łódź, Academy of Fine Arts in Glasgow (Scotland). The project Meanings and Attachments of Mah Rana (British designer and the lecturer at London Metropolitan University), investigating approach to the jewellery of the Poles, will be shown.

Debuts
A cycle presenting the works of young Polish artists just entering the artistic scene goldsmith and designer. This year in the frame of cycle will be presented quartet 4 Women (Weronika Bachan, Jolanta Gazda, Dorota Michalska, Martyna Tejwan).

Group Plateaus

The international project whose authors are: Patricia Domingues (Portugal), Barbora Dzuráková (Slovakia), Katharina Dettar (Germany), Edu Tarin (Spain).

Birthday Party II

Exhibition of works by the most recognized and respected artists dealing with jewellery, members of the numerous jury committee of Legnica International Jewellery Competitions.

4D (Alena Hesounová, Karla Olšáková, Kateřina Řezáčová and Lucie Houdková)
The project of four young Czech artists, graduates of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.

Salute to Pinton
International exhibition which is a tribute to honor the work of the deceased in 2008 Italian goldsmith - Professor Mario Pinton. Works of 21 artists – students of Mario Pinton, the legendary Nestor of the Paduan designers. The chef curator of this project is Wim Vandekerckhove, who leads Villa de Bondt Gallery in Geneva.

There will be blood
International exhibition organized by the Gallery La Basilica in Barcelona. Participants: Attai Chen, Azahara Santoro, Maria Bartosz Chmielewski, Jacek Byczewski, Jie Sun, Karolina Bik, Malgorzata Kalińska, Märta Mattsson, Ming Gu, Momoko Tamura, Nicolás Estrada, Reka Fekete, Seoul Gi Kwon, Walter Chen.

Presentations 2013
Exhibition of works selected to the National Jewellery Competition PRESENTATIONS 2013 which traditionally accompanies the Gold Silver Time Fair in Warsaw. The aim of the competition is to propagate contemporary jewellery in Poland, searching for new trends, forms, materials, techniques and formal solutions. Last year topic was consumption of art.

Amberif Design Award 2014 – Materia Prima
Exhibition presents pieces selected to the 18th International Competition for Jewellery Project with Amber organized by the International Fair of Amber, Jewellery and Gemstones Amberif. Its aim is promotion of a creative thinking and innovative solutions in jewellery design with amber. This year’s topic was: Materia Prima.

Artistic Group AU+ 3 minutes down!
Exhibition of a group of young Polish artists (Marcin Bogusław, Bartosz Chmielewski, Filip Jackowski and Michał Wysocki), graduates of department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, practicing conceptual approach to design.

Holownia
Exhibition of works submitted on 23 Legnica International Jewellery Competition CLASSICS, but not qualified for the main exhibition. Holownia gives the audience the opportunity to confront their own opinion to the decision of the jury. The exhibition annually presents hundreds of works from several continents.

Meanings and Attachments
An exhibition of photograph portraits – the result of artistic research project of Mah Rana artist-designer, lecturer at London Metropolitan University. The theme of the project is the attitude of Poles to jewellery.

V.K.N. – Artist and Friend
Exhibition dedicated to the memory Vratislav Karel Novák (1942-2014), a prominent Czech artist-sculptor and jewellery designer, educator and promoter of contemporary jewellery, participant numerous artistic projects and exhibitions in Europe, member of exhibitions in Legnica and Friend of Art Gallery, who died in March this year.

Accompanying events:

Boundaries of Global Art:
Symposium on Theoretical being current summary of the current condition of contemporary jewelery and design, provoking reflection on trends in contemporary art. To participate in the session were invited historians and art theorists, artists-jewelers, curators and students free.

Photo Exhibition - Classic:
Photo exhibition under the topic of the International Legnica Jewellery Competition CLASSIC.

Silver jazz:
Traditionally accompanying festival jazz concert, which annually performs a different team.

Silver Screen:
projections of the films (artistic, documentaries) related with the topic of the International Legnica Jewellery Competition CLASSIC.
