Intro
The exhibition was born out of a specific organizational challenge when a previously planned exhibition in my space was cancelled at the last minute. This unforeseen situation required a quick solution, and it was clear that any artist invited to participate would be aware of their role as a gap filler.

Instead of hiding this fact, I chose to openly address it and use the term "Lückenfüller” as the exhibition title to highlight the conceptual framing. While the term "Lückenfüller” may have a negative connotation, it is important to critically analyze this assessment as it simply describes the existence of a gap that can be filled.

Considering gaps and their potential fillings draws attention to the prevalence of intervals and spaces in various contexts, such as physical structures, architecture, landscape design, surfaces, and biological substrates. The term "gap" is complex and encompasses different spatial and conceptual dimensions, including cavities, cracks, gaps, and openings.

The approaches to filling gaps are diverse, ranging from subtle and invisible to deliberately exposed and aesthetically enhanced, as seen in jewelry. Against this theoretical background, 30 jewelry artists from Austria were invited to contribute to this topic, resulting in remarkable works in both form and expressiveness. One interesting aspect was that some artists had works in their portfolios that could be interpreted retrospectively as gap fillers, adding an unexpected dimension to the exhibition.

From a curatorial perspective, this coincidence was just as enriching as the works created specifically for the theme, highlighting the idea that the concept of the gap should not only be seen as a deficiency, but also as an opportunity.
