A pearl a jewel considered to be a gemstone, which due to its mild glow is compared with moonlight and is considered to be an indication of femininity, moreover, its sphere shape is perceived as an indication of perfection.
The exhibition will feature jewellery artists from all over the world, as well as painters from Latvia. The unifying element of all exhibitors is PEARL.
Artist list
Maria Alves de Lima, Māris Auniņš, Shirly Bar Amotz, Kristin Beeler, Valdis Brože, Isabelle Busnel, Ana Cardim, Wu Ching Chih, Angela Ciobanu, Thais Costa, Annette Dam, Carolin Denter, Denise Ebert, Ammeli Engström, Nicolas Estrada, Elin Flognman, Maria Rosa Franzin, Castello Hansen, Liisa Hashimoto, Madara Keidža, Marie-Louise Kristensen, Chao-Hsien Kuo, Emmanuel Lacoste, Andris Lauders, Guntis Lauders, Sari Liimatta, Réka Lörincz, Gigi Mariani, Märta Mattsson, Noritamy, Ted Noten, Nathalie Perret, Renata Porto, Tereza Seabra, Simeon Shomov, Catarina Silva, Anita Sondore, Terhi Tolvanen, Paula Treimane, Zane Vilka, Yasmin Vinograd, Maija Vītola, Felieke van der Leest, Māris Šustiņš
As a result of the aesthetic creativity of artists, a PEARL acquires a modern form based on the individual experience and material selection of each artist. The selection of diverse and unusual materials creates a game that highlights the classical and unmistakable matter of a PEARL and allows it to be reflected in today's light.
In the past, I only associated pearls with older ladies and snobs. They reminded me of boredom and senile sensation. But in the years of study, when I began to work with the matter, I realized that they quickly lose their dusty vapor when combined with other materials. In conceptual jewellery pearls come alive since they are used in an unconventional manner, says jewellery artist Carolin Denter from Germany.
Italian jewellery master Gigi Mariani, in turn, offers the creation process of a pearl to be used as a metaphor for everyday life, not to be afraid of the new and strange, but to accept it and to create one’s own gemstone. An oyster to protect itself from a foreign body creates a pearl! The pearl is a wound healer. Figuratively speaking, it is a waste that becomes something valuable and expensive.
By sweeping off aristocratic dust, pearls are reborn in modern, sophisticated and interesting contemporary and conceptual designs!
Exhibition scenography, idea, concept by fashion designer tandem “MAREUNROL’S” (Mārīte Mastiņa-Pēterkopa un Rolands Pēterkops).
