When we need to adapt to a new environment or social setting, with it inevitably comes about a change in our nature, even if only in detail. Where are the boundaries between the necessary adaptation and the loss of thy former self?

Many animals effectively use mimicry as means for survival, while adaptation is central to almost all human communities. In the end, no idol would be raised to the position of a half-god if not for those, wanting to be like him.

During the “Mimicry” exhibition, jewelry and blacksmithing students will be reflecting on their own observations on adaptation and alienation, similarity, and differentiation. Versatile solutions among the works offer approaches from both deeply personal and general human experience points of view. Impact of the artificial environment on the human body, issues coming from the personal,  and human fears, as well as, nature’s irreverence are under observation.

Students’ works have been guided by: Eve Margus-Villems and Nils Hint.
We would like to thank: Estonian Academy of Art, “ArtDepoo” Gallery, Eve Margus-Villems, Nils Hint, Jens A. Clausen, Risto Tali.
