Shaping the earth, carving stone, delving into matter to reveal the real... Is creation not, in itself, a mystical act?
Beyond words or purpose, what transpires between the creator and their work is a matter of secrecy—a closely guarded secret of intimate experience, an ephemeral awakening.
Shaping the earth, carving stone, delving into matter to reveal the real... Is creation not, in itself, a mystical act? Beyond words or purpose, what transpires between the creator and their work is a matter of secrecy—a closely guarded secret of intimate experience, an ephemeral awakening.
Many artists speak of this indescribable moment, perceptible only in the act of creation itself. Mystical knowledge—whether it pertains to Nature, Being, God, notions of presence or absence, or a transcendent reality—belongs to the creator. Yet, the observer, if endowed with empathy, emotion, and their own secrets, may be initiated into this mystery. It is in this moment that an intimate connection becomes collective, and beliefs are shared.
In response to Belgium's invitation to the De Mains de Maîtres biennial in 2021, and through a selection of artists made jointly by Jean-Marc Dimanche (the biennial's general curator) and BeCraft, the association invites Luxembourgish creators to engage in dialogue with its member artists.
Together, intentionally or incidentally, they guide us into the mystery of creation, ultimately—perhaps—demystifying it
