Intro
BA students from Nanjing University of the Arts present their metal artworks at the graduation show. Instead of bringing up a discussion about the visual appearance, they explore the possibility of "participation", "intervention" and "transformation" of this real world we live in.

Today's art has gone from visual exploration to material research. For contemporary art, Boyce believes that in today's era, the possibility of traditional reproduction, Concrete art (especially Plastic art), and Abstract art style as Visual art is gradually exhausted. Therefore, contemporary art should turn from visual discussion and exploration to material research, that is, to focus on the real world of human life, which is different from the early natural philosophy's attention to the material world. Contemporary art pays special attention to real life, emphasizing "participation", "intervention" and "transformation" of the world we live in. This is the mission of contemporary art. In this sense, it can be said that contemporary art is more powerful than other cultural styles. Now we are facing the problem that the living world has been transformed by technology and industrial processing. How to express the transformed world? At this time, you can find that this is different from the traditional concrete art and abstract art, but in any case, the direction for art to enter the lifeworld is clear, so art needs to adopt new innovative ways and new experience possibilities. These are the contents of this exhibition.
 
Xiayu Ji. Vessel: Trouble Wine Pot, 2021. Silver, copper.. Statement: The work aims to combine the historical background and unique structure of the "tumbler" to create a set of wine vessels that reflect and criticize the contemporary Chinese wine culture. Through the funny anthropomorphic form of the wine pot and the uncontrollable behavior when people use the "tumbler" structure of the wine pot, metaphor is carried out.. Xiayu Ji
Vessel: Trouble Wine Pot, 2021

Statement: The work aims to combine the historical background and unique structure of the "tumbler" to create a set of wine vessels that reflect and criticize the contemporary Chinese wine culture. Qijun Wang. Vessel: Weaving Utensils, 2021. Silver, bamboo.. Statement: As two different forms of expression, knitting technology and vessel design recognize the combination of these two elements when they are unified into one object. The carrier of expression is contemporary vessels. By trying to combine different materials of weaving technology and utensils, we can enlarge the aesthetic feeling of weaving technology, and pay attention to the proportion and support of weaving parts in utensils, so as to achieve the unity of elements and aesthetic feeling in the final presentation.. Yilin Wang. Vessel: Gradual Change, 2021. Silver, copper.. Statement: The definition of gradual change in the Handian is: a gradual, insignificant state of change in things. And the word "gradient", most of the time, is used in the field of painting and two-dimensional space, which refers to "color gradient" or "motion trajectory gradient". Although in my daily life, I use more vessels composed of a single geometric form, that doesn't mean you can't create a "gradient" using different shapes of geometry on a single vessel.. Yilin Wang

Yizhuo Wang. Vessel: The Spout and the Members, 2021. Silver.. Statement: The work starts from the dialectical relationship between the whole and the part in philosophy, and applies it to creation. The aim is to study the dialectical relationship between the whole and the part in the object, and to think about the relationship between the body and the spout, handle, and lid, and to explore whether the form and function of the part and the whole can be converted. Liang Xu. Vessel: Mirror of Stereotype, 2021. Copper.. Statement: In the current social context, "pursuing oneself" has long been a widespread phenomenon. When babies are born, they perceive the surrounding environment through their own sense organs. Preschool children are often the most "self". Most of them don’t have the ability to empathize, so they rarely take into account the feelings of people around them in their behavior. With age and the pressure of the external environment, people begin to assimilate again and thus lose part of their "self", and people's understanding of self is gradually blurred. Yuqun Yang. Vessel: Dripping, 2021. Copper.. Statement: The fall of a drop of water seems simple, but in fact, there are many changes. The moment the water drops hit the surface, they will burst apart, causing splashing water to form a series of ripples on the surface of the water, but eventually, they will calm down. Just like what happens in life, no matter how happy or sad. They don't just stay at the best or the worst; they only have an impact for a short time. Eventually, life will go back to normal. Ji Zhao. Piece: Skin Memory, 2021. Statement: Miao embroidery and Miao silver are both ancient exquisite handicraft art in the mountains. The original works are vivid in color and design. However, in this rapidly developing digital age, handcraft as symbolic entities, seem to be recorded, but in fact, they are dismantled in a practical sense. In this sense, each actual work is a memorial filled with ghostly, wandering objects. It will present the actual work and express sincere respect for the tradition before deconstruction. However, the combination of simple symbolization and real artwork after being recorded is a kind of releasing behavior, using three-dimensional scanning technology to blur the entity on the body with meaningless code seals, and fuses multiple indicators into a newer object. The physical and emotional processes occurring in the creative process make self-actualization reverse archaeology and achieve a delicate balance between body, memory, and mind.. Ji Zhao

Tingyu Zheng. Vessel: Hilarious Utensils, 2021. Copper, Resin. Statement: Hilarious Utensils concentrates on the dramatic. As most people know that drama is mainly about conflict and contradiction. I try to present them in my works. I used volume comparison, different colors, different materials. Also, the technique behind the material is conflict and contradiction. For example, photosensitive resin is connected to 3D modeling and printing which is a modern and contemporary technique, contrary to that, copper is related to forging and many kinds of traditional metalcraft which has a long history. It’s also the so-called conflict and contradiction. What’s more, my works are different from the coffee utensils on the market, it’s also a kind of dramatization.. Tingyu Zheng

Wanning Yang. Vessel: The traces of my meal, 2021. Copper.. Statement: The form selected for the work is the most basic tableware. Tableware is chosen to maximize the contact with hands, so that interaction and marks can be more intuitively reflected. Due to the objective reasons of the thickness of the vessels, the final decision is made to use the laser engraving technique to show fingerprints. The final visual effect of the work is completed by the combination of craftsmanship and the expression of ideas.
