Intro
The Tsukumogami series, also known as Ninety-Nine Kami, began in 2015 with an invitation from a traditional textile collector to create designs for her exhibition.

Ziyi Yang
The exhibition focused on using old, handmade cotton fabrics from the southern region of the Yangtze River. These traditional textiles trace a journey from seed to woven fabric, with every step of the process deeply connected to human activity.

This inspired Ziyi Yang to reflect on the Tsukumogami folklore of Japanese culture, where daily objects associated with humans are believed to transform into goblins or spirits. The philosophy behind Tsukumogami resonates perfectly with the spirit of handmade cotton fabrics from the Yangtze River. These traditions hold a sense of magic that seems to have been overshadowed in modern society.

Over the years, Ziyi has continued to develop new works for the Tsukumogami collection, exploring the beauty of this material and the enchanting folklores that accompany it. These new creations aim to reimagine the collection, weaving a fresh narrative between the artist and the audience.

This exhibition also features the Signature Collection, an ongoing autobiographical and self-healing project. In this series, Ziyi transforms her personal experience with illness into visual expressions through jewellery, embracing the process with optimism. The aim is to celebrate the traces of life and encourage wearers to find strength in their unique stories through the act of wearing these pieces.
