Artist list
Olle Olls, Linda Ottosson
The droplets are hand-raised in copper and brass and nickel-plated to an almost impossibly reflective finish, mirroring the room and the viewer. A hard and enduring material is made to embody something fluid and fleeting. The work captures a moment of transformation: melting ice, the loss of solid ground and a world in crisis, but also our own smallness in the face of the forces of nature.
Craftsmanship is central to both artists’ practices. Through traditional silversmithing techniques, familiar forms are shifted, taking on new proportions and meanings. There is a desire to push the material beyond the expected, but also a fascination with the making itself: the hammer blows, the repetition and the time required to slowly raise a form from a sheet of metal.
What has long been frozen begins to give way. Ice turns to water, fixed boundaries dissolve, and landscapes change. It happens slowly and violently at the same time. A transformation so vast that it can be difficult to perceive while it is taking place.
We are living in the midst of this change. Glaciers are retreating, winters are growing shorter, and places shaped by ice are changing or disappearing. It is easy to observe this from a distance, as numbers, graphs and images from places far away. Harder is to grasp what it actually means that something which existed long before us may be gone after us.
The exhibition is presented with support from the Swedish Arts Council and Region Jämtland Härjedalen.
