This exhibition features an extraordinary selection of works by renowned Dutch artist Ruudt Peters, a trailblazer in contemporary jewelry design, known for his groundbreaking approach to form and material.
Ruudt Peters'work is rooted in a deep exploration of the intersection between matter, spirit, and the unconscious. Since the 1970s, Peters has been at the forefront of contemporary jewelry, pushing the boundaries of tradition by exploring new materials and forms. His creative process is based on alchemic principles, seeking to transform matter into something that holds deeper meaning, imbued with what Peters calls bezieling—a Dutch term for putting one's soul into the work. Each of his pieces demands a profound connection between artist, wearer, and viewer, transcending mere ornamentation to become vessels of energy and spirituality.
The concept of Occiput, which is the focal point of this exhibition, reflects Peters' belief that true creativity does not arise from conscious or rational thinking, but from the deeper, intuitive realm of the occipital lobe, located at the back of the brain. While the occipital lobe is responsible for processing visual information, Peters uses it as a metaphor for the unconscious, where the most profound ideas and instincts reside.
In Occiput, Peters emphasizes that artistic creation flourishes when the artist lets go of forced thinking and allows the subconscious to take control. This process of intuitive creation results in the unexpected and the deeply personal, which is reflected in the abstracted blind drawings and sculptural works on display. Peters invites viewers to engage with these pieces on a deeper level, encouraging them to explore the complex intersections of art, intuition, and introspection.

Ruudt Peters (b.1950) is a pioneering figure in contemporary jewelry design, known for his revolutionary contributions to the field since the early 1970s. His work explores profound themes such as alchemy, spirituality, and the unconscious, and his creations are recognized for their ability to evoke deep emotional and symbolic responses. Peters' pieces are housed in prestigious museum collections, including the Musee des Arts Decorative in Paris, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
