Orizzonti d’Autore: Between Body & Soul.
Jewelry, as an art form, is deeply intertwined with the body, altering its presence, enhancing its features, highlighting its contours, reshaping its form or redefining its appearance. This exhibition examines the various ways in which art jewelry relates to the body, revealing how these artistic interpretations give the works themselves intrinsic meaning.
Each of the 20 invited international artists addressed the theme “Between Body and Soul” in a unique and surprising way, materializing in their creations a journey of exploration of the deep connections between physicality and spirituality.
Through fascinating materials and poetic narratives, as well as surprising illusions and unexpected volumes, each work in the exhibition is revealed as an instrument of the body that wears it. An instrument created specifically to communicate, to give voice to our souls, to give shape to our dreams.
The second edition of Orizzonti d’Autore invites us on a journey through the intricate layers of the body-soul connection, harmonious yet conflicting, visible yet intangible, real yet illusory. From the intimate personal stories captured in Gerd Rothmann's jewelry to the universe encapsulated in Fritz Maierhofer's brooches, from the surprising shapes emerging from Mirjam Hiller's foils to Jiro Kamata's optical illusions, from Philip Sajet's provocative works to Benedict Haener's seductive creations, each artwork reveals the complex and often unconscious interaction between the tangible and the invisible.
In this context, jewelry becomes a communication tool, and the wearer becomes a performer who transmits the artist's message to the world.
Ultimately, a tool that generates interaction, capable of creating valuable relationships with those around us.
Archeometra Lifetime Achievement Award for Art Jewelry.
The establishment of a lifetime achievement award for art jewelry stems from the desire to celebrate an artist who has devoted his or her creative force and artistic research to the field, contributing significantly to the development and enrichment of the sector over a whole lifetime of dedication. Thanks to the invaluable support of Archeometra and the hospitality of the City of Asolo, the Biennale Orizzonti d'Autore is honored to establish the Archeometra Lifetime Achievement Award for Art Jewelry. In this second edition, the prize will be presented to Dutch artist Robert Smit, during the opening of the second edition of Orizzonti d'Autore, in a ceremony to be held in the Council Chamber of the City of Asolo on September 14, 2024 at 3 p.m.
In honor of Robert Smit's incredible career, which spans more than five decades, a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the master will be held at the Sala della Ragione of the Museo Civico di Asolo from September 14, 2024 to January 6, 2025, presenting an extraordinary selection of more than 60 works including jewelry and drawings by the artist.
