Put a Ring On It by Paul Adie

Jewelers'Werk Galerie presents Put a Ring on It, an exhibition of new and recent work by artist-jeweler Paul Adie. The show opens on Saturday, April 16th, with a reception to meet the artist from 1 – 4 pm, and will remain on view through May 6th. This is Adie’s first exhibition in the U.S. 
As the title suggests, this show exclusively features rings—over 40 of them. Primarily utilizing silver, aluminium, and paint, Adie crafts playful, unconventional rings that explore taboos and morals related to language, gender, sex, the body, and social class. Standing in for traditional gems are painted rock-like shapes, some of which conjure graffitied walls or oversized conversation hearts. These candy-colored confections, however, humorously convey irreverent messages. With these rings, Adie creates miniature billboards that serve as statement pieces or conversation starters. 

About the artist
Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Paul Adie is based in Munich, Germany. He has a degree in Artistic Jewelry, from Escola Massana, in 
Barcelona, Spain and a postgraduate diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Adie is represented exclusively in the U.S. by Jewelers’Werk Galerie. 

The exhibition is open during gallery hours: Monday through Saturday 11 am – 5 pm or by appointment. Jewelers’Werk Galerie is located at 3319 Cady’s Alley, NW in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. It is the longest-running and only contemporary art jewelry gallery of its kind in the greater Washington DC area, where owner and industry veteran Ellen Reiben shows precious and non-precious works by international artist-jewelers.
