Intro
In his first solo exhibition in Germany Peter Hoogeboom shows an overview of his work as a contemporary jeweller working with ceramics since the mid-nineties. Schlamm is the German word for mud, and it has a somewhat negative sound. It can also mean clay slip: Peter’s valued material of choice.

Artist list

Peter Hoogeboom
Peter has been living and working in Amsterdam since he graduated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 1992. Three years later he started executing the ceramic production method of slip casting. Small custom-made plaster moulds supply him with the sometimes hundreds of hollow ceramic elements he builds his pieces with, resulting in dense yet lightweight pieces, reminiscent of Elizabethan ruffs as well as ethnographic neckpieces.

This exhibition at Galerie Biró shows elaborate pieces from the different series Peter has worked on since he first started to work with ceramic slip, up to works made during 2017 in which he focuses on distorted, broken ceramics.

Peter Hoogeboom is represented in the collections of the V&A in London, the MAD in New York, CODA Apeldoorn, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Auckland Museum, amongst others.
