Social media can act as a filter, through which we convey ourselves in a particular light. The contemporary phenomenon of the ‘selfie-taker’ and the socially acceptable act of stopping conversation, taking a posed selfie and resuming natural conversation, has become the social norm. The selfie-taker, subconsciously or consciously, explores identity- factual and fabricated, the self as a viewable object, self expression, visual codes … fleeting moments or carefully choreographed scenarios show traces of our environment and are immortalised in snapshots and hashtags for the entire world to see.
