The Shanghai University, Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts graduation exhibition has come to a successful conclusion. The students who graduated from the Jewelry Studio are Fangwei Li, Jianmeng Fang and Qingxin Lu. They each possess different styles and unique perspectives on art, ideology, jewelry and utensils. Together, they contribute new understandings to the field of contemporary jewelry and industrial art.
Artist list
Jianmeng Fang, Fangwei Li, Qingxin Lu
Jianmeng Fang
Her Master’s thesis explores how dramatic elements are expressed in art jewelry. Most of her works are a composite of comprehensive materials and metal technology regarding self realization and reflections on society in order to express her ideologies.
Qingxin Lu
Her graduate work focused on using different shapes and images to reflect on contemporary societal issues. Jewelry is a medium for personal expression.
Fangwei Li
The original inspiration behind creating "Mi" was to focus on the artistic concept of objects. The ancients emphasized the art rather than the medium of objects, and they viewed objects as ways to exhibit self-expression, spiritual consciousness and personal vision. In the context of current industrialization, I feel we place more emphasis on utility rather than concern for a human touch.
Many people desire to return to nature and find peace while living in bustling urban settings. I have chosen to use elements from the literati paintings of the Song Dynasty. Literati paintings are imbued with literati aesthetics, which convey a sense of tranquility. Landscape paintings are an important component of literati paintings, and they are characterized by conveying an overall visual effect of artistic vision. I have tried to “paint” on metal, using the landscape painting technique of mist to produce a softer effect and elicit a sense of surrounding.
