Intro
SMCK ON REEL Third Edition highlights jewelry potential to permeate political discourse and to address metaphysical questions.

Since the dawn of civilization jewelry has embodied divine spirit and secular order.

SMCK ON REEL, the video festival inspired by jewelry and wearable art celebrates its third edition at Schmuck/Jewelry Week of Munich 2024. Next to contemporary narratives on jewelry's archaic heritage, the video screenings of SMCK ON REEL 2024 / MAGIC present short documentaries on the cultural and social meaning of jewelry art, emphasizing its impact on political communication.

SMCK On Reel is a project by SMCK Magazine. The video festival was founded by Loukia Richards and Christoph Ziegler in 2022 to offer the art loving public insight into the maker’s narrative, to enable low-budget international networking and promotion, and to enrich the viewer’s appreciation of applied art and design.

With Thomas Stangier (Acting director of Landshut museums), Dr Petra Hölscher (Senior Curator of Die Neue Sammlung - The Design Museum), Hubert Sanktjohanser (Furniture designer). Julie Metzdorf (Cultural editor) moderated the discussion.

6. Experts Talk, 2023.
Contemporary jewelry must open up to the broader public. This is a task for individual artists, as well as a collective effort. Lack of communication between different players in the field of contemporary jewelry inhibit the sector's growth.

The video features Europe’s leading professionals and international VIPs sharing their insight, and analyzing major contemporary jewelry challenges with honesty and precision.
Experts Talk visualizes SMCK Magazine’s efforts to overcome the sector’s segmentation, and suggests solutions for sustainable growth.
