"I make Constructed Fabric and Paper Wall Reliefs and Small Sculptural Work.
Each piece is entirely hand made. The wall reliefs are painted, dyed, stitched and cut. These techniques are extremely labour intensive involving careful replication of each process. This results in the work having a controlled, methodical and even mechanical appearance. I am committed to the development of this simple structured style whilst still retaining a distinctive hand made quality.
I combine intense colour with more neutral tones, diffusing colour by mixing and blending dyestuffs and paints, and I use materials and techniques to form multi layered effects.
In contrast, I create a range of small sculptural pieces entitled Curios. I call these my three dimensional sketches. The work is much more spontaneous. These are my response to observations I may have made, and hint at objects we may be familiar with, especially organic formations.
These are often contained in small Perspex containers so that they have the appearance of being precious specimens for us to study although their material value is negligible".
