A Theatre of Appearances refers to a play about perception and appearance, by transplanting Coogee beach - as the epitome of the West Australian experience of space, light and life - and 7 west Australian personalities (who I got to know during my residency in Perth) - into a tiny European gallery space in the ending of darkest winter. This scene has been captured by Michelle Taylor's superb and sensitive photographic eyes.
The exhibition is about my interest in the changing perception / the several transformations of a single jewellery piece, as an independent figurative object / jewellery / or when it interacts with a wearer. I aim to walk that fine line between making something simple enough that one unavoidably recognizes, that simultaneously requires a fair conscious effort to get beyond the obvious, and at the same time to be abstract enough that it allows a shift to happen, that the piece becomes something all together new when it unpredictably connects with you, when its in your hand or it appears together with you when you put it on.
