Gathering them together in one exhibition is a rare and pleasant experience for all of us. At the beginning of the proposed exhibition, we did not set any specific theme but left the right to the artists to decide what they wanted to show. We fully trust the high degree of tacit understanding naturally revealed between them.
Three friends and three lines in coordination.
Artist list
Luran Huang, Xiaoqi Liu, Xiaoyou Ying
Old friends of The Closer Gallery, the three young artists invited are not only schoolmates who graduated from the Royal College of Art, but also good 'sisters' in their current life. Coincidentally, they have something in common in the way of creation: to choose a main material/object and use a relatively simple processing method to 'cut' it flatly. They may rely entirely on manual production or use electronic and mechanical equipment for assistance, but no matter how they only mean to ensure more accurate cutting to the material/object at the technical level.
The hands and the machine are therefore invisibly competing with each other. Every part that is cut off or retained strictly follows the intention of 'design' and becomes the most appropriate existence. From the perspective of results, although the creative intention of each of them extends in their own thinking track, the three groups of works are inexplicably related to each other. It might be rooted in their restrained but almost extreme demands on the 'texture' embodied in their works. The 'texture' itself covers the thinking content they want to convey, and becomes a visual language, talking to the audience at their own speed.
Opening: 18 February 2023, Saturday at 3 pm.
Opening hours: 1 - 7 pm.
